dATAview Control Window
Control Panel is a resizable window which provides control
over the whole dATAview system. Use
Tutorial or
FAQ's
if you look for a solution of the specific problem. Below is a list of the
available features:
- Data source
selection (image server, shared memory, disk file);
- Load, save, print commands;
- Options
(cursor shape, sliders behaviour, open and close windows);
- Frame Navigator:
1st, Last, Loop (forward & backward movie);
- Function
Selection (single or integrated);
- Telescope
control (center object, move object);
- Subarray
position/size selector;
- Switches:
Bad Pixel, Sky Subtract;
- Tools:
Protractor, Wind Rose (North indicator);
Window Controls:
- Menu Bar
- File
- Image Source
allows to switch between different image sources:
- Disk data.
Acceptable formats are FITS and grey/colour PBM/PGM
(available from xv SAVE command).
- Shared memory (SHM).
This option is available only for MAGIC/MAX/OMEGA
cameras on their local machine. It offers the fastest data access.
- Image server (IMSRV).
Displayed images are obtained from the
remote "imsrv" program sending images to the intersted clients. This
option is currently ported for MAGIC/MAX/OMEGA cameras, but may be
extended in future.
- IRAF. Left for the future developement.
- Open
disk (FITS or PBM/PGM) files. You can open one or
more (using SHIFT key and mouse left button) files simultaneously.
You can also use ADD button to add more files to the currently open set.
- Save is not supported at the moment :-)
- Print allows you to send Postscript version of
your image either to the disk or directly to the printer.
- Quit program.
- Options
- Sliders - Select the slider behaviour functionality. They can
control either brightness & contrest or min & max
displayed values.
- Cursor - ~select cursor shape: Dot In Box,
Cross Hair, Cross with Hole. On some X-terminals you
may need to select Negative to have cursor OK.
- Windows - Open or close

- Help starts HTML help window.
- Frame Navigator contains:

Frame Number Window for displaying current
frame_number/available_frames and for entering requested
frame numbers.

information button which opens PopUp window with frame details.

1-st and Last buttons (switch Last ON for
"display_when_ready" behaviour).

Loop - Sequentialy display as fast as possible all
available frames.

Fast Rewind, Step Back, Step Ahead,
Fast Forward buttons.

Load in Progress
window showing some action during image aquisition.
- Function Selector
provides switching between:
- Telescope Offset Facility
alows you to:

Bring any object to the center of the frame or
-
Move telescope from one position to another.
- Subarray Selector
-currently supports SUBARRAY selection for MAGIC cameras.
- Switches valid only for
Shared Memory or
Image Server images.

Bad Pixels On/Off

Sky Subtraction On/Off
- Tools

Protractor measures sky distances (in arcsec) and angles.

Wind Rose shows frame orientation.
Miscelanea
- Resizing the window to the "landscape" shape will change button
layout and descriptions.
