Following positions are part of the LSP-MIST project funded by the ERC
           
Postdoctoral researcher in 3D magneto-hydro modelling of AGB stars with companions

The successful candidate will perform 3D hydrodynamical modelling of AGB stars in binary systems, where the companion is of planetary and brown dwarf mass. Special focus will be put on the evolution of the system in the course of mass exchange between the host and the companion resulting from the AGB wind. Results of this modelling will then be verified against phase-resolved observations of such systems.

The candidate should have a PhD in astronomy/astrophysics and experience in 3D hydrodynamical simulations of AGBs in binary systems.

The position is planned for an initial period of 1 year, with an extension for up to 3 or 4 years, and it comes with a competitive salary thanks to ERC funding. It also includes travel and publication funds and access to a dedicated computing cluster.

PhD position

The successful candidate will take part in preparing LSP catalogs, including processing optical photometric data, assembling infrared data, light curve classification, machine learning, as well as in the subsequent statistical analysis of the resulting sample.

The candidate must have a MSc degree in astronomy/astrophysics and have experience in programming.
