POLISH ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL TITLES AND DEGREES:

(a word professor in Polish contains a single "s", hence profesor)

Doktor (dr) - is granted by a fully qualified faculty board.

Doktor habilitowany (dr hab.) - is recommended by a fully qualified faculty board and granted by the
Central Commission for Academic Titles and Degrees in Poland.

Assistant Professor - the holder of a doktor habilitowany (dr hab.) degree in the post of adiunkt
professorship

Associate Professor - the holder of a doktor habilitowany degree in the post of profesor nadzwyczajny 
(extraordinary professor - lower rank professorship)

Professor - the holder of a profesor academic title in the post of profesor nadzwyczajny
(extraordinary professor - lower rank professorship)

Full Professor - the holder of a profesor academic title in the post of profesor zwyczajny
(ordinary professor)


The Minister of Education appoints holders of the academic title of a profesor or a doktor
habilitowany degree to the post of profesor zwyczajny.

The post of profesor nadzwyczajny is appointed by a university rector to holders of the
academic title of profesor or a doktor habilitowany degree. 

The title of profesor and a doktor habilitowany degree authorise the holder to promote
doctorate theses.
