Welcome to my website dedicated to Polish Meteorites and Polish Meteoritics. I will not provide here any general information about meteorites, like their chemical structure, classification, etc. - you can find this type of information for example here or on many other web pages through the internet. My intention is to introduce Polish Meteoritics and Meteorites to foreigners. There are many meteoritophile meetings orginized in Poland. During such meetings you can buy, sell or trade almost 'any kind' of meteorite or you can just go there to talk with meteoritophiles, discuss some subjects and have fun.

Polish meteoritical activities

There were Meteorite Seminars taking place in Olsztyn in 2001, 2003 and 2005 as well as Meteorite Picnics (seven till 2006) held in various places and Meteorite Conferences: Poznan 2005. It is where the biggest meteorite collection in Poland can be found. There in Olsztyn Planetarium you can also have a look at moon stones brought to the Earth by Apolo 11 expedition.

Polish meteorites are famous all over the world. Any bigger meteorite collection contains at least one specimen of Pultusk or Lowicz meteorite. Pultusk is known as the biggest stony meteorite rain in history and Lowicz is one of the rarest mesosiderites. Also well known is the Morasko meteorite that fell as a meteorite shower 5000 years ago. In Morasko village there still can be seen the impact craters. Two of the biggest fragments from there waight 77,5 and 78 kg. Even now you can find more stones on that strewnfield. In autumn last year 48 kg piece of meteorite was found there. Another famous meteorite is one from Baszkowka that has incredible regmaglypts. The latest discovered is meteorite Zaklodzie found in year 1998 that is belived to be fallen in 1897. The map of strewnfields and more detail information about them is available here.

You can see author's collection of meteorites here.
