Gaia Competition

Warsaw University Astronomical Observatory announces the competition for a post-doc position for the National Science Centre (NCN) project: Transient events from Gaia and OGLE as probes of extreme environments of galactic nuclei and supermassive black holes population.

The candidate should satisfy the following conditions:

  • PhD in Astronomy,

  • Very good publication record,

  • Experience with spectroscopic data, confirmed with first-author publications,

  • Computing skills, experience with Linux/Mac systems and programming skills in Fortran, C/C++, Java or Python, as well as data visualisation,

  • Experience in observational data analysis from large sky surveys, both ground-based and space-based,

  • Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written,

  • Ability to work independently, experience in group work.

During the employment we expect the post-doc to work on the above-mentioned project. It includes analysing data from Gaia and OGLE projects with respect to transient events, developing detection and classification algorithms, preparing and executing observing proposals on large telescopes on the ground and in space, analysing the data, scientific publications.

Employment period: 1st January 2017 until 28th February 2019
