Disciplinary Proceedings Against Warsaw Astronomers for their Activities During World War II
Streszczenie:
After World War II, two astronomers from the University of Warsaw
Astronomical
Observatory were accused of conduct unbecoming of an academic teacher,
i.e.,
antisemitism and activities favoring the German occupants. These
astronomers
were Michał Kamieński (1879-1973; director of the Observatory
1923-1945) and
Maciej Bielicki (1906-1988). I will present an analysis of archival
documents
that were not known until recently. The documents are supplemented by
present-day interviews with people knowing the accused astronomers. I
will
also discuss a broader context of these disciplinary proceedings.
